As for my recommendation, I would like to point you all to a sport manga and a historical one.
Name - Bamboo Blade
Genre - Humor, school and sport
Volumes - 5 chapters
Story - It is about Kendo and nothing more. A high school team with an unusual and often funny teacher climbs the mountain of training and competitions. They come across tough opponents and as well as good potentials.
Reason - The manga is for fun-goers imo. This is not like Bleach or One Piece. It's more for the easy going and fun seeking readers. I finished it in roughly a week and it was a good relief between other on going series.

Genre - Historical, fiction

Story - The story of Vikings in awesome brutal fight, bloody gore and political twists.
Reason - Fans of sword and warriors will find this attracting as sugar to an ant. This is a very well drawn manga with a storyline that surpasses the illustration. Highly recommended for a fight and die fans.
